África Digna: Scholarshipsfor students in Kenya

Fundación África Digna was founded in 2004 with the aim of fostering a better life in Kenya and Rwanda while providing the economic support to local social entrepreneurs for them to carry out self-sustaining projects in the fields of health and education.

Our collaboration with this organization takes shape in the scholarship program África Digna - Fundación Jesús Serra, whose objective is to provide access to secondary education and a profession to Kenyan female students that have a good academic record but scarce economic resources. This initiative covers their studies costs and monitors their progression.

A group of secondary female students from the Loreto Limuru educational center were the first ones to receive a grant for the years 2015-2018. The center in the county of Kiambu (45 minutes by car from Nairobi) currently has over 1,000 female students, 50 teachers, and 60 support persons, and it is renowned for its work in the region and the progress made by the young female students that have passed through its classrooms, such as the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai.

África Digna recognizes that, in recent years, major progress is being felt in this continent, especially among women. And, “if women change, the country will change, because there it is they who educate their children,”as the president of this organization states while showing excitement for this grant program.
